Frequently Asked Questions


Each team will use the Vex robotics system ( and other acceptable parts to create a robot that will compete against one another in friendly competition. Teams are given six weeks from the date of the kick-off to design, build, program, and test their robot. At the conclusion of the six weeks, teams come together to compete in a three day competition to determine the overall winner as well as the recipients of numerous other awards.

Who can participate?

Any student in kindergarten through 8th grade can participate. Participants may form their own teams or register as an individual and be placed on a team. Students do not have to attend a Lee's Summit school.

How many students can be on a team?

We recommend having three to five students per team; however, we will not place a limit on the number of team members.

What if I don't know anything about robots?

No problem! We host many workshops during the six week build season where teams can get help from JRL staff and other veteran teams.

How much does the league cost?

The cost to participate varies depending on the type of registration. For more information on the different registration options and how to register visit the registration page.

When does all this take place?

Kickoff is in early October and the competition will take place in mid November.
